Celebrant Sharda.png
For a culturally sensitive and utterly romantic ceremony delivered with elegance, warmth and wit.

I’m Sharda (she/her), a hopeless romantic who has watched ‘When Harry Met Sally’ an embarrassing number of times. I love holidays in Italy, art galleries, The Beatles and making people laugh.

I was born in the Caribbean, of Indian descent, and have always been a keen ally of the LGBTQ+ community; from my days as ‘Equal Opportunities Officer’ of the Student Union at the London School of Economics through to my current job in the civil service where I am an active member of our Diversity Working Group.

I’ll work closely with you to create your dream ceremony. You may want to have elements that reflect both your backgrounds but we can put those in the wider context of the important things that brought you together, celebrating your shared values, hopes and aspirations.

I love taking the time to really get to know a couple, how they met and all the things they adore about each other. It’s a real privilege to be part of your lives.

I have lots of public speaking experience, presenting at numerous international conferences in my career as an professional economist and appearing on TV and radio many times. I was also a teacher for eight years, which involves a fair amount of speaking, often to quite a tough audience!

I won the David Thomas Financial Times essay prize in my 20s for an essay on climate change and was shortlisted for the Dr Jonathan Nicholls Memorial essay prize in 2023. I

have also had my fiction writing recognised in several competitions.

I would love to use my writing and speaking skills to create and conduct your ceremony, which will be completely unique to you, fully reflecting you as individuals and as a couple.

I mainly serve couples in London and Hertfordshire, but I’m happy to travel further afield.

I have been trained and accredited by the charity Humanists UK to conduct non-religious wedding ceremonies. Humanists UK celebrant training is widely regarded as being the best in the business, so you can rest assured you’ll be in good hands.

Though humanist weddings are non-religious, we can use traditional elements from wedding rituals around the world or even make up our own. We can keep things simple, or have something more elaborate, it’s entirely up to you!

Humanists UK celebrants are annually accredited, DBS checked, and fully insured (public liability and professional indemnity). We’re also part of a local, regional and national network for support, sharing best practice, and emergency back-up. So booking a Humanist UK celebrant gives you real peace of mind.

Whoever you choose as your celebrant, I wish you all the best for a long and fulfilling marriage.
